Founded in 1951, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur was the first Indian Institute of Technology in India. IIT Kharagpur has 19 departments, 9 centers of excellence, 13 schools and 25 R&D units. IIT Kharagpur offers a total of 169 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. IIT Kharagpur courses are offered in regular mode in Engineering & Architecture, Computer Applications & IT, Science, Commerce, Animation & Design, Management & Business Administration, and other streams. IIT Kharagpur students can also pursue inter-institutional programs in collaboration with other national and international universities and colleges.
