Overview

Caltech is one of the world’s leading private research universities. Today, Caltech is recognized worldwide for its expertise in engineering and natural sciences. This university is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. We partner with AAU, HHMI, and NASA (JPL).

Caltech’s campus includes the Beckman Institute, the Kavrin Institute for Nanoscience, the Rosen Bioengineering Center, the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute for Neuroscience, the Resnick Sustainability Institute, and his five We have a research institute. The university’s academic structure includes six departments: Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Biology and Biotechnology, Geology and Planetology, and Engineering and Applied Sciences. Currently, Caltech has over 1,285 graduate students and approximately 948 undergraduate students.

Caltech has a very competitive selectivity rate which is usually less than 10%. Admissions are selective hence, admits are also lower for all levels of study – 938 UG and 1,299 students for PG were admitted in 2018-19. The student faculty ratio on an average is 3:1. Caltech students and faculty have received 46 nobel prizes over the years.

Applicants can submit either Common or Coalition Application for undergraduate admissions while, admission applications are accepted directly through Caltech website for graduate admissions.

The following exemptions apply for Caltech admissions and non submission of ELP scores:

  • Applicants who have studied in the US for two or more years
  • Applicants with a degree from a college or university whose primary instruction is in English

It is not mandatory to submit GRE scores for graduate admissions at Caltech, but those students who still wish to report their scores are welcome to do so.
