GATE 2022: Detailed Examination Pattern
The Application form for GATE 2022 will be released in first week of September and then only the exam date will be public. A new Question type called MSQs(Multiple Select Questions) has been introduced in GATE 2021.
Any new information or change will be cleared in GATE 2022 Notification.
The Detailed Examination Pattern valid for Every subject is given below:
GATE Exam consists of 65 Questions with maximum marks 100 and time duration of 3 hours. There are two sections in GATE Exam:
(a) Section A: General Aptitude
(b) Section B: Core Subjects
Section A: General Aptitude
This section consists of 10 Questions (5 Questions of 1 Marks Each and 5 Questions of 2 Marks Each) and a total of 15 marks.
Section B: Core Subjects
This section consists of 55 Questions (25 Questions of 1 Marks Each and 30 Questions of 2 Marks Each) and a total of 85 marks.
From GATE 2021, Now there are three types of Questions:
(a) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
(b) Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)
(c) Numerical Answer Type Questions (NATs)
Let’s discuss the types of questions one by one in detail.
(a) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs):
In MCQs, there are four choices given for a question out of which only one is correct. There is negative marking in this question type. For 1 marks Question, -1/3 marks is deducted as negative marking and for 2 marks Question, -2/3 marks is deducted.
(b) Multiple Select Questions (MSQs):
In MSQs, there are four choices given for a question out of which one or more than one can be correct. There is no negative marking in this question type.
(c) Numerical Answer Type Questions (NATs):
In NATs, you have to answer in digits where your answer should be within a range. There is no negative marking in this question type.
GATE 2022 Eligibility Criteria:
A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts. There is no Age Limit for this exam.
